"Seasons of Change": 4/9/25

April 09, 20255 min read

Good morning gentlemen,

My quiet time this morning was in Ecclesiastes 3. Solomon is speaking about the various “seasons of change” that we go through in our lives….

“For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven,

A time to be born, and a time to die;

A time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;

A time to kill, and a time to heal;

A time to break down, and a time to build up;

A time to weep, and a time to laugh;

A time to mourn, and a time to dance;

A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together;

A time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;

A time to seek, and a time to lose;

A time to keep, and a time to cast away;

A time to tear, and a time to sew;

A time to keep silence, and a time to speak;

A time to love, and a time to hate;

A time for war, and a time for peace.” (Ecclesiastes 3:1-8)

You could spend months unpacking the wisdom in those eight verses! Bottom line, Solomon’s point is clear….Seasons of change are going to ebb and flow in our lives.

Some good. Some bad. Some with sunshine. Some with storms. I love what Jared Brock says, “There is a reason and season for everything under the sun, even when we can’t see the sun.”

No matter what, change is inevitable in life, and change is coming for all of us….

Changes in our life’s seasons….

Changes in our kids growing up, moving on, getting married and having children….

Changes in our health and abilities….

Changes in our jobs, where we live, finances, relationships, parents and loved ones passing away….

The list goes on and on….

My wife and I have been talking about this lately….Pondering on our beautiful story and all the changes that have occurred over the last 30+ years. As well as the new season of life we’re in.

I just witnessed a new season begin for my best friend as I stood beside him as he said goodbye and buried his father….

Change is the only constant in life. On this side of eternity new seasons of change are certain, ongoing, and never ending….Just like the seasons of nature, nothing in life remains still….Or the same. God tells us that….

“For everything there is a season and a time…” (Ecclesiastes 3:1)

The Hebrew word used for “season” is (ʽēt), which means, “A unit of time that remains only so long; A proper and suitable duration.”

The Hebrew word used for “time” is (zemān) which means, “A set and appointed duration.”

God is communicating several things to us with those two words for the times we walk through the ever certain, changing seasons of life….

First, God is telling us that our current season will not last forever….

“It is a unit of time that remains only so long” (ʽēt). The current season you are in will eventually end. Seasons are temporary not lifetimes.

Second, God is telling us that our seasons have purpose….

”They are proper and suitable in duration” (ʽēt). “Proper” means, “appropriate and right.” ”Suitable” means, “sufficient and relevant.”

There is an appropriate, right, sufficient, and relevant reason for your seasons, and for the length of your seasons. They accomplish something. They fulfill a purpose. They usher in the next season.

Third, just like nature’s seasons, God is telling us that our seasons have a “set end time….”

“A set and appointed duration….” (zemān). The time of the season’s end, whether a good season or bad, is already known….already established….already determined….Its conclusion is already appointed….By HIM!

It’s important to remember that just like nature’s seasons, every season in your life is not going to be a growing season, nor is every season is not going to reap a harvest….

There will be essential seasons of planting, watering, pulling weeds, and fertilizing. Equally important are the seasons of stillness and rest. Some seasons are meant for growth and abundance, while others are meant for rest, resetting, and renourishing.

God has a purpose for you in the season you are in, the season you are exiting, or the season you are about to enter. ”He wants to do something new with you, (Isaiah 43:18-19), and His plans for you are good!” (Jeremiah 29:11)

He wants you to become the man you are supposed to be, and the man He designed you to be. God wants to use every twist, turn, storm, and calm on your journey to make you more like Jesus, to be a conduit of His light to a dark world, and to bring Glory to Himself….

Although we do not know the terrain ahead, and how our paths will wind, nor do we know the season that’s on the horizon for us….God does!

He wants you to have faith and patience and “trust the wait”….

He wants you to trust in Him. His leading, His guidance, and His empowerment….

He wants you to walk by faith not sight, knowing He is beside you on the journey….

“I will never leave you; I will always be by your side.” (Hebrews 13:5)

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9)

So, what’s next on your horizon? What twist, turn, or transition is ahead of you? What unknown page in your story is about to turn?

God designed you and made you for change. He built change into our lives and into the rhythms of nature. He does not want us to fear or shrink back from what is unknown in our story. He wants us to boldly step into it….

Are you going to fear unknown seasons of change? Or are you going to boldly step into them and embrace them?

A great quote from Bob Goff, “Embrace uncertainty. Some of the most beautiful chapters in our lives won’t have a title until much later.”

Your life is an ongoing and changing story with new and unknown chapters yet to be written.

As believers, God wants to tell a story through our lives.

Gentlemen, let’s walk boldly and confidently through the seasons of change on our journey knowing that God is the “Author and Finisher of our faith….” (Hebrews 12:2).

He is the Great Storyteller, and you are His masterpiece poem! (Ephesians 2:10)

Let’s make it a great day for Him!

Love y’all,

-dino
